Tech Tools
Projects in this category will be a student-designed app or computer program meant to meet a certain need that is not met by current programs. Students should consider who the new tool will help, why it is necessary, what platform it would be based upon, what the icon would look like, and how it might bridge other programs already in existence.
Invention Convention
Projects in this category will be the prototype (model) of student's original invention or improvement upon an existing device. Students should clearly explain the need for the new device and how it will work. There should be a diagram with the parts of the device labeled, and a review of similar devices that perform related or similar tasks.
Artistically Inclined
Projects in this category should highlight the arts. Students may show a new visual arts technique, they may make a new musical instrument, or anything to highlight their artistic inclinations.
Glad Scientist
Projects in this category are what many would think of for a traditional Science Fair. Glad Scientist projects are experiments performed through the scientific method. Students should pose a testable question, conduct research, develop their hypothesis, maintain a single independent variable, collect data and draw conclusions.
Careers in STEAM
Projects in this category will highlight a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Math) career or career field that may be new to most people. If students can interview someone in the field, that really supports the effort to share the information, but an interview is not necessary. Students should find out about college majors, companies that hire such people, and any additional certifications needed to perform in the career.
Scientific Models
Projects in this category will use ordinary materials to build a model of something either too small to see with the naked eye, or too large to conceive. Models should use ordinary, household materials rather than materials purchased for this purpose. Parts of the model should be labeled and the project board should offer additional information about the model or how it fits into the larger system.
